Ever play Gothic? It's got a very similar game mechanic.

If you only played it for a short time, you probably didn't get to the joining a group bit. I can't remember what the groups were in gothic 3, but in the first one you could join one of three cities (then become a mage, warrior, whatever). They all had basically the same end goal, but they all wanted it for different reasons, and different means of achieveing it.

Yeah, my friend who owns the game to which I got to play on, had gotten to those kinds of groups. Theres orks/mercanaries, rebels and assasins.
