I have never understood the ketchup in mac and cheese thing. Because either the ketchup overpowers the bland boxed stuff (meaning you now just have starch-diluted ketchup with more starch), or it conflicts with flavorful good mac and cheese.

It's not just the vinegar. While it does have the acidity from vinegar and tomato, most ketchups are also made very sweet and salty, which are the two flavors that kids (or people who like to eat like kids) actively seek out. I think that's why some people put sugar in their spaghetti, because it makes the sauce taste a little more like ketchup.

I hate ketchup so it's a big hell no for me. The smell of ketchup has always bothered me for some reason, so I can't stand it most of the time. Every now and then I might eat it with fries or something, but it's rare. I do sometimes make mac and tomato soup, but I don't add in the cheese mix, so it's not even mac and cheese at that point.

I generally can't eat Mac n' Cheese at all. The texture of cheesy pasta has always been a big no for me and I've only ever managed to eat five spoonfuls of the stuff in my entire life. It's just not something my body considers food.

Also, I replace ketchup with barbecue sauce at any chance I can get away with it.

So that's a "haaaayl naw" from me.
